  2. Jayakumar –

This short literary work, by what appears to be a relatively novice in the field, leads the reader into realms that transcend ordinary storytelling .While remaining firmly anchored in the everyday world of Latha Mami and her personal experiences, the narrative moves effortlessly between the intimate and the expansive, drawing the reader into the familiar rhythms of ordinary life even as it hints at deeper and more ancient layers of human experience.

One of the novelist’s most striking achievements is the skillful weaving of the Neolithic petroglyphs of the Edakkal Caves into the storyline. Through this approach, the reader becomes aware not only of Latha Mami’s present world but also of the vast and mysterious backdrop of human history. The ancient markings of Edakkal caves function almost like a silent chorus behind the narrative, reminding us that individual lives unfold within a continuum that stretches back to the earliest expressions of human thought and imagination.

Particularly noteworthy is the author’s restraint in dealing with themes that often provoke sensational speculation. Rather than becoming entangled in the controversies generated by alternative archaeologists—who interpret the global similarities of petroglyphs and the enigmas of structures such as the Egyptian pyramids, the Nazca lines, Mount Kailash, or even the chariots described in the vision of the prophet Ezekiel as evidence of extraterrestrial contact—the novelist deliberately avoids polemical argument. Instead, these references appear as suggestive echoes within the narrative, inviting reflection without imposing conclusions.

It is precisely this restraint that lends the novel much of its aesthetic strength. By leaving certain questions unresolved, the author preserves a space for the reader’s imagination, allowing the story to resonate beyond its immediate plot. In doing so, the novel achieves a delicate balance between the ordinary and the mysterious, between the lived reality of its characters and the deeper enigmas that surround human existence.

In this subtle interplay lies the true beauty of the work. It is a novel that rewards thoughtful reading and leaves the reader with lingering reflections long after the final page. A work well worth reading.
