AGAINST THE CURRENT : ‘An Entrepreneurs Journey’

AGAINST THE CURRENT : ‘An Entrepreneurs Journey’ – By Ranjini Venugopal

What does it take for a boy from a large agrarian family in rural Kerala to build a life far beyond the circumstances into which he was born? C. R. Kuttykrishnan’s journey began in the 1930s in a Kerala that was still largely rural and traditional. From those early years, he went on to join the Indian Air Force, serve in its technical division, and eventually enter the uncertain world of entrepreneurship and manufacturing. But this is more than the story of an entrepreneur. Seen through the eyes of his daughter, it is a collection of memories of a father whose life was shaped by curiosity, determination, discipline, and an appetite for new experiences. Childhood recollections, books, family stories, work, setbacks, and triumphs come together to portray a man and a generation that witnessed an India in transition. Some dreams were fulfilled; others remained tantalisingly out of reach, especially his long-cherished dream of creating something meaningful in his home state of Kerala. This is one daughter’s attempt to preserve the journey of a man she first knew as her father and only later came to understand as the remarkable individual he was.
